As space becomes embedded in everyday life on Earth, from communications and navigation to climate monitoring and national security, resilience is becoming a defining requirement for the future space economy. Orbits are growing more congested, threats are becoming more complex, and the consequences of disruption are rising. This opening panel sets the stage for Day 2 by examining what it takes to protect and sustain space infrastructure in an increasingly contested and unpredictable environment. The discussion will connect cybersecurity, signal interference, debris and collision risk, space weather, ground system vulnerabilities, and the need for redundancy and rapid recovery when failures occur. Power is becoming one of the defining constraints of the next phase of space activity, from larger satellites and orbital infrastructure to commercial space stations and deep space exploration. As ambitions grow, so does the need for reliable, scalable energy systems. This panel looks at the various space power technologies, including space-based solar power, wireless energy transmission, and the renewed interest in nuclear fission and reactor-based systems to support sustained operations in orbit and beyond. Panellists will examine what is technically feasible in the near term, where major engineering and safety challenges remain, and address the investment reality – that powering space at scale requires long-term, capital-intensive infrastructure funding that few private markets are currently structured to support.
