5th Asia-Pacific Space Generation Workshop

Venue: Boeing Singapore Training & Professional Services

The 5th Asia-Pacific Space Generation Workshop (AP-SGW 2018) is a two and a half-day workshop for students and young professionals (aged 18-35 years) to discuss pertinent issues in the Asia-Pacific region. Held from 3 to 5 November in Singapore, the event will feature up to 100 top delegates.

As per tradition, AP-SGW 2018 is supported by and held in conjunction with the 25 th Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF), happening 6 to 9 November. With AP-SGW, SGAC aims to engage the next generation of space leaders in exploring challenges relevant to the region and opportunities for regional collaboration.

The Singapore Space Challenge (SSC) is a highly anticipated national space design competition that challenges student teams to leverage space technology; from satellite mapping to GPS and GNSS. We encourage innovation in engineering to conceptualise and design space-related projects to tackle real-world challenges ranging from disasters to improving the quality of life. The challenge is held annually and is organised by the Singapore Space and Technology Association (SSTA).

The Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF) was established in 1993 to enhance space activities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Space agencies, governmental bodies, international organizations, private companies, universities, and research institutes from over 40 countries and regions take part in APRSAF, the largest space-related conference in the Asia-Pacific region. The increasing attendance of high-ranking officials at APRSAF events provides opportunities to discuss international cooperation for space activities in concrete terms.

Examine the role of cloud computing in Earth science, including how it improves lives and safeguards our future. Also, learn about building planetary-scale applications in the cloud with big data analytics. 

Witness featured guest speaker, Hook Hua, Data Scientist from NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, showcase the Advanced Rapid Imaging and Analysis (ARIA) project hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), and other related NASA missions using the cloud. Hook Hua is a data scientist with 18 years of experience in Earth science data systems technology development. He is also the Principal Investigator for several Earth science data systems projects enabling large-scale cloud computing and machine learning analysis capabilities.
