The local space industry hopes to attract more professionals

Lianhe Zaobao 本地太空科技业 希望吸引更多专才来自 / 联合早报文 / 李锦松发布 / 2017年10月9日 3:30 AM 新加坡太空与科技协会执行董事陈淑婷指出,不少外国企业近年纷纷在我国设立分公司,探讨在本地制造并发射卫星的可能性,开发卫星运用相关业务……这无疑将带动整个领域,包括对更多技术和非技术专才的需求。她预计,该领域有望在未来五年内取得双位数增长,制造约300个就业机会。 提起太空宇航科技领域,人们一般会联想到太空航行或火箭科技等精深工程,很难想象地小人稀的新加坡也有相关领域。实际上,本地太空科技领域不但聘有超过1000名专才,而且正持续招聘,以应付未来增长。 全国职工总会就业与培训中心(e2i)近期与新加坡太空与科技协会(Singapore Space and Technology Association,SSTA)连办两场讲座,除了提高人们对本地太空科技领域的认识,也希望吸引人才加入。 SSTA执行董事陈淑婷接受《联合早报》访问时指出,随着新科电子(ST Electronics)去年12月发射首个新加坡制造的卫星,并宣布计划制造及发射第二个卫星,本地太空科技及宇航业也逐渐活跃。 两个卫星属于1公吨以下的小型卫星,主要负责进行地球探测与摄像,可用于控制火点以避免烟霾、勘察偏远地区灾害情况以部署救援行动,以及确保海事安全等。 陈淑婷预计,该领域有望在未来五年内取得双位数增长,制造约300个就业机会。她说:“不少外国企业近年纷纷在我国设立分公司,探讨在本地制造并发射卫星的可能性,开发卫星运用相关业务……这无疑将带动整个领域,包括对更多技术和非技术专才的需求。” 本地企业创值科技(Addvalue Technologies)提供卫星通信服务超过20年。据公司首席营运与技术总监陈开邦观察,卫星通信技术已逐渐成熟,有望在不久的将来进一步普及化,甚至取代部分传统的移动通讯系统,进而制造更多商业机会。 他说:“传统通讯系统的覆盖范围较小,而且须在地面装置接收器和信号扩充器,若发生重大水灾或地震造成电流中断,人们便无法与外界通讯……使用卫星通信就没有这样的问题。卫星目前的使用价格与五年前相比下降超过八成,有望在未来进一步普及。” 新加坡经济发展局数据显示,本地太空宇航领域目前有30多家企业,聘有1000多名专业人士,其中有约150人是科学研究员。 陈淑婷指出,提起太空科技,多数人会想到美国国家航空航天局(NASA)及其太空探索工程,认为只有科学家或火箭学研究员才有机会加入这个领域,但其实不然。 她说:“太空与外星探索一般用作研究,我们从事的是卫星通讯或追踪等较具商业价值的工程,技术专才只占领域总人力需求的一小部分,除了软件与系统工程师和数据分析员,我们也需要更多业务开发员和行销专才。” 陈开邦也指出,公司欢迎从未有太空科技或宇航工作经验的员工加入。他说:“造船与海事领域近一两年的表现欠佳,不少该领域的专业人士因公司业务重组而沦为冗员。这群员工的商业经验或许和太空科技无关,但相关公司可从他们身上了解海事领域的卫星通讯需求,进而开拓新商机。” 他补充说:“太空宇航工程历时较长,需要好几年的成熟过渡期,有兴趣加入这个领域的人需有耐性和毅力,并具备创新能力。” e2i上个月中邀来美国空军学院和瑞士太空航天局专家,与本地工程与资讯科技人员分享航天心得。当局上星期五举办的另一场讲座也吸引近100人参加。 一直从事金融与保险业务的林景淮(39岁)是出席者之一。他受访时说:“科技将在不远的未来进一步影响人们的生活,是个充满机遇和令人兴奋的领域。我从事保险工作已有十几二十年,是时候尝试新事物,因此在探讨能如何加入太空科技这个极具潜能的领域。” Link to article
